HULK STILL RULES DVD [20 Aug 2002|09:37pm]

Whaddup, Hulkamaniacs?

At midnight last night at Tower Records, I picked up the new DVD release HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN: HULK STILL RULES. People, I'm not just saying this because I am a lifetime Hulkamaniac, but this is THE BEST release WWE Home Video has ever done. The DVD is over SIX HOURS OF HULK HOGAN! This has just about everything one needs to get schooled on the MAN, the MYTH, the ICON himself, the Hulkster.

The regular HULK STILL RULES production is just over one hour long and covers Hogan's entire career, from his beginnings in the Deep South promotions all the way up to today in 2002 where Hulkamania is enjoying a major resurgence amongst the pop culture masses. In the show Hogan has some very revealing things to say about his peers past and present, the most fascinating insights being toward Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, current NWA: TNA head writer Vince Russo, The Rock and Triple H. While this alone is makes for fascinating viewing, it's the EXTRAS that make this DVD so special. Here's a list of those extras:

DISC 1:

-"The Incredible" Hulk Hogan vs. Ted DiBiase (Hulk's WWE debut, 12/17/79--MY THIRD BIRTHDAY!)
-"The Incredible" Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant (Showdown at Shea, 8/9/80)
-Hogan returns to WWE, assisting Bob Backlund against The Wild Samoans (CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING, 12/83)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: Iron Sheik vs. "The Incredible" Hulk Hogan (1/23/84)
-Hulk Hogan trains announcer Mean Gene Okerlund to wrestle (8/84)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hulk Hogan vs. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff (THE BIG EVENT, 8/28/86)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant (WRESTLEMANIA III, 3/29/87)
-Hogan makes "The Hulkster's Powerful Protein Shake" for Vince McMahon & Lord Alfred Hayes (TUESDAY NIGHT TITANS, 8/21/84)
-Hulk Hogan & Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake vs. Macho Man Randy Savage & Zeus (SUMMERSLAM, 8/28/89)

DISC 2:

-HANDICAP MATCH: "The Incredible" Hulk Hogan vs. Ben Cortez & Angelo Gomez (ALL-STAR WRESTLING, 1/2/80)
-WCW CHAMPIONSHIP: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan (BASH AT THE BEACH, 7/17/94)
-Interview with Hogan from TUESDAY NIGHT TITANS, includes a match with Hogan vs. Tiger Chung Lee (circa 1985)
-Hulk Hogan & Mean Gene Okerlund vs. Mr. Fuji & George "The Animal" Steele (8/84)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Undertaker vs. Hulk Hogan (TUESDAY IN TEXAS, 12/3/91)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hulk Hogan vs. Big John Studd (Puerto Rican card, 1985)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hulk Hogan vs. Nikolai Volkoff (SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT, 10/5/85)
-Hulk Hogan vs. Mr. Perfect (SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT, 4/28/90)
-Hulk Hogan & Andre the Giant vs. King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd (SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT, 1985)
-WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hulk Hogan vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper (WRESTLING CLASSIC, 11/7/85)
-Hogan wins the 1990 WWE Royal Rumble
-Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Hillbilly Jim, Koko B. Ware & Hercules vs. Big Boss Man, Akeem, Ted DiBiase, King Haku & The Red Rooster (SURVIVOR SERIES, 11/24/88)

Plus, classic Hogan promos for matches against King Harley Race, The Genius, a steel cage match against Big Boss Man, Honky Tonk Man and The Rock (in which Hollywood talks to a cardboard cutout of The Rock. Mad funny stuff!)

Whaddup, Hulkamaniacs?!?

Just joined this community like five minutes ago. I had no idea there was a community devoted to Mr. Terry Bollea out here. Guess there is! Mad sweet deal.

Anyhoo, thought I'd share my experiences with you regarding the Hulkster for my first entry here. I didn't discover who Hulk Hogan was until around the end of 1983. I was seven years old at the time (I'm 25 today). My dad was always telling me about him, but since this was just prior to WWE's boom in popularity, I had no clue who he was talking about. My favorites then were "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas, Andre the Giant and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Then one morning with my dad I watched the old CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING program, where the headlining match was a tag team attraction, The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) taking on Bob Backlund and...The Incredible Hulk Hogan. Of course Hulk's team won the match. About a month later Hulk's historic WWE Championship victory over The Iron Shiek occured, and soon enough I was a diehard Hulkamaniac, watching every match he was in on TV, buying any piece of Hulk Hogan merchandise I could grab, and basically living in a world colored red and yellow (and of course later on, black and white). My first live WWE event (June 22, 1985 in the Boston Garden) featured Hulk in the main event. I would throughout the ensuing years of my life get to meet the Hulkster on four different occasions (1987, 1990, 1997 and 2002). My family and me once had an oil painting of Hogan hanging in our living room. I've owned just about everything there is to own with Hulk's image on it over the years. Recently I had the good fortune of acquiring the much sought-after 1983 Japanese EP Hogan recorded for Warner Brothers in Japan. To sum it all up, there isn't a much bigger Hulkamaniac out there than I.

Oh, btw, one parting note for you all: on August 20, WWE Home Video is releasing a two-DVD set called HULK STILL RULES, with a second disc containing over FOUR HOURS of bonus material, including 15 of Hulk's most memorable matches. One of which will be his 1979 WWE debut, a match in Madison Square Garden against a pre-$$$ Ted DiBiase.

Alright, gotta bounce and get ready to go to ManRay (a nightclub in Cambridge, MA). One luv. Out!

10-4,

The saddest thing happened Sunday night at King of the Ring.

The Hulkster tapped out to Kurt Angle's ankle lock.

Watching that, I'd never felt so hurt in my life.

But he's Hulk Hogan. He'll bounce back. He always does. That's what Hulkamania's about, isn't it?

I've never seen that Wrestling Boot Band album before, but I read in the official Hulkamania magazine that Hulkster cut an album in Japan in the early '80s before his popularity skyrocketed.

Oh, and I just joined. Whatcha gonna do--I mean, hello! ^_^
